After my fifth (or was it seventh?) phone crashed in 2 years, I convinced my husband that it's time I upgrade. Like that, I had a high-tech smart phone with all the cool things it offered: apps for everything - maps, Facebook, Blogger, e-mail - and a camera. A nice camera. Better than my point and shoot camera, in fact.
So, after a long hiatus from picture taking, I started capturing little memories. Andrew's grumpy faces, Emily's mischievous doings, Emily and Andrew playing and laughing together and Ben sitting with his kids. With Picasa and Instagram suddenly available from my phone, I've taken more photos in a few months than I have in the last year and I've enjoyed taking these pictures.
With my weird personality quirks, it's simple things - like a smartphone - that enable me to engage with my kids and actively capture our moments together. It's what helps keep me alive and going, especially as I balance school and family and pregnancy (yes, an entity all its own).
While my privileged state is clearly shown through this post, I don't care. I am glad for technology and extremely grateful for my smartphone.

I think I need to figure out how Instagram works. The photos I take on my smartphone aren't so great, but I'd love to be able to capture more spontaneous moments with my kids. Love seeing these photos of yours! xo
ReplyDeleteAndrew in his sporty pjs and heels, Emily reading her book -- so perfect. Little capsules of time that you -- and they -- will always have.
ReplyDeleteThank you for making me realize something simple. I am so thankful for my phone, too. I reach into my bag countless times per day and pull it out and snap away. It makes me feel better about time passing, that I am capturing these moments.
ReplyDeleteI want a cool phone! *stamps feet*
ReplyDeleteVery memorable pictures of very small, but important, moments!
One of my favourite things to do throughout the day is snap photos of the boys and email them to their dad. Words just don't do some moments justice ;)
ReplyDeleteOh yes. I am so grateful for my phone. For sure. For instance, I am dictating this comment to you right now. I know for sure that I wouldn't have half as many pictures as I do without my phone. It might be sad, but true. And I'm okay with that!
ReplyDeleteMe too. Me too. (Would throwing a fit make it happen faster?) MEEEE TOOOOOOOOOO!
ReplyDeleteOh, that sweet-cheeked, dirty-headed adorable little boy! My heart's a drippy puddle of gooey goodness.
ReplyDeleteI've yet to play with Instagram, and my old cell had a great camera, whereas my blackberry (which is so helpful for other things) - well - it's camera is pretty bad.
ReplyDeleteI try to remember to drop my digital in my purse when I go out - just in case. You never know when something will entice you visually, and you want to "grab" it for future musing, inspiration, or enjoyment.
I admit - I took gazillions of pictures of my kids when they were little - and I don't regret it. Some are framed and around my little home; eventually I need to get some of them at least into a digital format. I'm hoping my boys will be happy to see the pics when they're older, but for now, I delight in them, when I'm in a sentimental mood.
I want a phone! Totally necessary for my stay-at-home, mama blogging life... ;)
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are awesome, full of personality!
Help! What am I missing? Why is it better to take a pic through Instagram or Picasa? I just use my iPhone camera and post to facebook or download to my computer later. But I have Picasa on my computer, just don't know what the heck to do with it....
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm with you—I love being able to take pictures all the time. There were far too few pictures when I was growing up.
I'm so with you there. I wasn't big into the smart phone idea at first - afraid the kids would just float it in the toilet and I'd feel bad, but when my husband handed his down to me and we got a good deal on the plans, I got to experience first hand how awesome it is to always have a camera in pocket to record all those awesome little moments. :)
ReplyDeleteI have the Instagram app downloaded on my iphone, but don't utilize it at all. You've inspired me to reconsider. Thanks!
