Morning Cocoa

If we were to meet for cocoa...

I would tell you that today feels like a Monday.  Ben took a 4-day weekend and boy did we soak it up.  We went on a date and used an actual baby-sitter.  Right as we were walking out the door, Andrew fell and bit his lip.  Lots of blood, lots of tears, and a wonderful baby-sitter who calmly took charge.

Over the weekend, I saw Sue, my nurse practitioner.  After having me do a few balance tests, she decided a specialist would be the next best option to figure out this nausea.  Oh how grateful I am for Sue.

After an incredibly hard week last week, I was able to meet with a therapist and start medication for my anxiety and depression.  It takes about a month for me to notice any difference, which slightly scares me, but I am thankful for my supportive husband who helped me tremendously during his 4-day mini-vacation.

I would tell you that today is a mellow day.  I received a phone call that my grandmother died this morning.  I had mixed feelings when I heard she had passed away.  She had suffered from Parkinson's for at least ten years now.  For the last five, dementia has settled in leaving her vastly different from the grandma I grew up with.  While I am sad to say good-bye, I am grateful she has been released from her physical and mental pain.

I would share our latest exciting news: our final decision for where we will attend medical school.  Watch out Midwest, our family is headed in that direction!

I would refill your cup and tell you how wonderful a warm beverage is on these cold, winter months.  My dear husband fixed our stroller last night so the kids and I will be able to get out, but walking in the cold weather isn't exactly thrilling--not in a pleasurable manner anyway.

I would give you another hug and tell you to stay as long as you'd like.  It's nice to visit with an old and good friend.

Grab a mug of something warm (or cold for those in different parts of the world) and tell me, what would you share?

  1. I'd tell you that when my last grandmother passed away, I had the same mix of feelings, and our family had a great time celebrating her life.

And that a couple of nurse practitioners have nurtured me through tough times like no others.

Re: your impending move, I'd say yay! That brings you closer in my direction!

  2. Hot cocoa sounds yummy. And I would tell you that I am so sorry to hear about your grandmother, but I also experienced the same mixed emotions wen my grandmother passed away.

Also, how fun that you got to spend four whole days with your hubby AND he even fixed something. Now that's something to lift your spirits until those meds kick in. And, I hope they find a fix for your nausea. It is fortunate that you have a great nurse practitioner to help and support you.

I can't wait to hear more about your move. What's the timing on that?

  3. So glad you got to have a nice enjoyable 4-day weekend with Ben. And, that you are being sent to see a specialist - I hope they'll be able to get rid of the nausea once and for all!

I was thinking of you today - was planning on popping over to say I've missed you, when I noticed your post in my Google Reader.. :) Wishing you all the best with your move as well... Maybe a fresh place, a fresh start will be a good thing for you, and for your family.

  4. Ha! My husband is very handy when he has time. He also fixed our child's gate--a huge blessing.

We start school mid-August but will be moving a couple months before. Or so we think. We are still figuring out what to do with my husband's current jobs and so forth. (We also have to find a place to live which will require a trip or two. So much planning!)

  5. I'm sorry to hear the news about your grandmother. I completely understand your mixed feelings upon hearing the news and I hope that you both find peace.

And as for your move to the Midwest, I need more details. All I know is that there is a lot of cheap quality housing available in my town. ;)

  6. Oh, thank you!!

I do think a "fresh start" will be good. Plus Ben will be starting medical school which will mean moving toward something definable. Amazing!

  8. I was sorry to hear about your grandmother, but I understand that mixed bag of emotions that comes at the end of an illness or years of struggle. May she rest peacefully.

It sounds like you're making the most of these dreary winter days. Therapy, a walk, and hopeful end to nausea all sound very promising!

  9. Hey you...

I'm so sorry about your grandmother. Thinking of you today.

So exciting about the midwest and the decision! :)

    {I'm going to email you in a minute about other things!}

  10. Cocoa sounds good today. Though we're having honey tea. And this week I wouldn't subject you to our germs.

I'm sorry for your loss. When my grandma died, the circumstances were similar. I'd probably want to hear stories about yours and tell you that I opened a random box this weekend, finding a few of my grandma's belongings. Then I'd move on, since I'm easy to tears with all the sleep deprivation.

What a delightful weekend, though. Those moments of togetherness are precious indeed. (I'm a bit envious, having just had a one day weekend in spite of the holiday.)

Good luck with the specialist and all the moving adventures. The midwest occasionally calls me in it's direction...

I'm excited about your midwest plans!

I hope all the medical stuff goes well. Nausea is so not fun. Neither is anxiety and depression. I hope you begin to fell better soon!

  14. I'm so sorry about your grandmother - I know it's bittersweet, but I'm sure it's hard not to have her here anymore.

Glad that you can finally make some concrete decisions next summer, though! So at least you don't have to "wonder" anymore about where you'll be. Hope everything goes very smoothly for you this month, and let me know if you need a break from your kiddos and I'll come pick them up!!

  15. How I wish we could meet for cocoa! (And I don't mean that in a weird stalkerish way.)

Big hugs to you on the loss of your grandma. I'm sure it is a relief to know that she's not suffering anymore but it is hard to say goodbye.

The move and starting medical school are huge! Congrats on both! Hopefully the moving process will lean more towards exciting than overwhelming. Keep us posted.

  16. I cup of hot cocoa sounds great right about now. I'm snuggled into a blanket in front of the computer, wishing for a fireplace or a great big bath tub. But you've warmed me through with our cyber hot chocolate. So thank you.

  19. So glad to hear you enjoyed your four-day weekend and are taking the right steps to coax your body toward healing and regaining the strength to prepare for your move. I'm so sorry about your grandmother. It's hard to lose someone you love, especially someone who was so important to your childhood. I know she's watching over you though.
